The Olympic Vascular Lab and Vein Center

ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS + HIGHLY SKILLED TECHNOLOGISTS = BETTER SURGICAL OUTCOMES

The Vascular Surgeons at Surgical Associates understand that high quality, detailed studies are a key component of quality surgical outcomes. Recognizing that not all technology or the technologists that perform them are created equal, they established the Olympic Vascular Lab in 2005, staffed it with specially trained Registered Vascular Technologists (RVTs), and provide them with cutting edge ultrasound technology. The result is a lab that allows our RVTs to provide the best possible noninvasive Ultrasound evaluations of arterial and venous disease, and our Surgeons the opportunity to work closely with them in the diagnostic process.

Utilizing state of the art ultrasound technology, our RVTs perform a full range of specialized diagnostic imaging examinations that are without the risks and discomforts of traditional invasive tests. These studies map out the body’s veins and arteries and provide vital, detailed information regarding severity and location of diseased vessels, allowing our surgeons to make well-informed decisions about the best options for each patient.

Our studies include both noninvasive (testing that does not require any incision or insertion of an instrument or substance into the body) and minimally Invasive (testing carried out by inserting a small diagnostic or treatment device through a small opening in the skin).

WHAT WE TREAT

Varicose veins are veins near the surface of the leg which have become enlarged and dilated, sometimes causing pain, swelling, or itching. They are a result of increased venous pressure often related to inherited characteristics. The aging process, occupations that require standing for long periods of time, and excess body weight can contribute to the condition, and while varicose veins do not always produce adverse physical symptoms, people with the condition often find the appearance of the veins unappealing.

“Spider” veins are thin red, purple or blue web-like networks of blood vessels that appear as lines on the legs.

HOW WE TREAT IT

Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins

A minimally invasive laser procedure* performed in our office under light sedation with local anesthesia.

Typically takes 1½ hrs per leg being treated.

Post-procedure discomfort is usually minimal and normal work and play activities can be resumed within a few days.

Provides rapid relief of symptoms for most patients.

Cosmetically pleasing results with minimal scarring. (see photos here)

*During this procedure and under light sedation, a small single needle puncture is made in the leg and a laser fiber is inserted into the diseased vein. The laser is activated and, as the fiber is moved through the vein, it heats and safely closes the vein. The blood that was circulating through this vein is simply rerouted by the body to other healthy veins, and the varicose vein essentially vanishes.

Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins

In conjunction with trans-illumination and/or duplex ultrasound technology, sclerotherapy solution is injected into the affected veins.

The veins are subsequently reabsorbed by the patient’s body and the unsightly “spider web” pattern eventually disappears.

Performed under local anesthesia without the use of general sedation.

In some patients, sclerotherapy has been shown to be effective on larger veins as well.

Insurance Coverage
Most insurances cover vein treatments for symptomatic disease. We can discuss with you whether Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins is the right procedure for your particular condition. To learn more about the benefits and risks of this procedure please contact our office at 360.493.5252.
